Camel cataphracts done.

Well, after my little armour disaster (and subsequent repaint) the camel cataphracts are finished. These figures are Essex 15mm and something else (Tabletop?) that all came in a TMP deal, and I thought I would get these done as generic 'heavy camelry' types (+ their scout...) for, perhaps, Commands & Colors: Ancients, or To The Strongest! scenarios. I think these are actually Sassanids or Parthians, but as far as I'm concerned (or until I take the time to read something on the subject!), a camel is a camel and I'll use them as whoever.

These were a little fiddly to paint because I couldn't get the thin Essex bases to sit firmly on either two-sided tape or blu tack and had to keep picking them up individually. Next time I do Essex mounted I think I'll just glue the damned things down to avoid this problem!

Anyway, good to have something more done, and for all my muttering I do actually like the figures, too.

  1. Looking good, Aaron. Interesting comment about the bases - a friend of mine has had exactly the same problem with Essex 15mm English Civil War figures.

    1. Hi Paul, not the first time I've had this problem with Essex, but the camels were particularly top heavy!

  4. Nicely done Aaron.
Cataphract camels are mentioned once as part of a Parthian army at the battle of Nisibis in 217AD. They caused quite a bit of damage, but were hurt by caltrops..

  5. Excellent looking camelry, Aaron. I like the armor effect - is that Gunze Sanyo metalizer paint you used (looks like the bottles in previous post).

    1. Yes, Gunze Sanyo, but unfortunately I'm now out of the silver, and since I last got some they seem to have gone out of business!

    2. They're out of business for sure? So you won't be able to buy Mr Color or Mr Hobby paints and such anywhere anymore??? That's awful news.

  7. Probably won't see a lot of use, but good to have just in case!
