Dear readers,
The comments I get from you folks are one of the things I most enjoy about the blogging process, but I'm afraid that as I've been getting a big whack of spam recently I've reluctantly decided to reinstate the comment verification system to try and cut the spam out. I know that the extra step required to share your thoughts is a pain in the backside, but it's now become a necessary one. Sorry about that!
Apologies for the inconvenience, and I hope it will not put you off leaving a comment here now and then.
Cheers,
Aaron
I've had to do the same thing. I only allow registered users to leave comments on my own blog now. The amount of spam I was getting was getting way out of hand!
ReplyDeleteI've just blocked anonymous comments, like yourselves the spam was getting well out of control, I was getting at least 40 a day!!!
ReplyDeleteThe blogspot captcha is terrible. As an alternative, if you are only getting spam on older posts, is to turn on post moderation for older posts. On my blog I set it to two days - I have to approve anything older so I can delete it if its spam.
ReplyDeleteThe only site I've seen that gets worthwhile comments from Anonymous is Phil Broeder's. Even he gets the occasional spam. For me no captcha and only registered bloggers works fine. I would like to spur conversation but don't feel it is necessary to approve every comment etc. Knock on wood I don't start getting spam now that I've said that.
ReplyDeleteThanks all, I've gone for captcha for the moment, but as I've had some proper comments from anonymous readers I'd rather keep that option going in the hope that the good ones might return!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Aaron
Odd, I've had not problems with spam on my blogs. If anything it seems to catch real peoples comments.
ReplyDeleteI never had any problems until the last ten days. They must suddenly latch on and after that won't let go...
