A nice little something in the mail...

Had a couple of packages arrive today. One from Simon Miller (and brilliant it is, too):

And another from Donnington miniatures:

Looks like I'll be able to get those RCW Romans done after all!

  1. Has Donnington relaxed their overseas postage rates some or did you just bite the bullet and pay 50% postage?

Nice score though! Love the coil binding on wargame books!

    1. They're about 40% if you max out, I think. But I was curious to try their figures and my usual suppliers weren't quite what I was wanting this time (I needed some German cav for Caesar's side as well). They are great figures I must say. Very happy with them :)

    2. I have a sizeable force that includes many of their Anglo-Saxons. I concur. They do look nice. The shipping is a poke in the eye though.

    3. The shipping's not so bad if you think of it as just lead cost, so bare lead plus shipping works out at about 43-45p per figure, say GBP3.50 for 8 foot. That's less than Xyston cost for lead alone, so they are pretty good value if you think of it that way.

      Cheers,
      Aaron

  2. Very nice, Aaron. Spiral bound rule books are the best

  3. Ah yes good ole Donnington. I remember the days of Essex and Donnington 15's before I was shown the true faith of 25's. Nice to see that they are still around.

    Cheers

    1. Pshaw, get thee hence with your 'true faith of 25s'! They're mostly 28s now anyway, aren't they? ;-)

  4. Glad you like the rules, Aaron! Re Donnington, I wonder if it would be worth me buying from them and shipping on to you?

I have an idea that I still have some unpainted Donningtons, somewhere in the loft...

    1. Kind of you to offer Simon. It might be more cost effective for a really big order, but not worth the hassle for you to just save me a measly five or ten pounds!

You never know though; if I do decide to put a big order in at some stage I might get in touch and see if we can't come to a mutually beneficial arrangement!

Many thanks again for your generosity with the items accompanying the book :)

      Cheers,
      Aaron

    2. Definitely worth bearing in mind Aaron- I might even be able to collect the minis at a show and save the postage at this end. I'm glad the other minis are useful! Best, Simon

  5. What game's map is in the background ?
looks some WW2 operational-scale, from roads forking from towns.
