Great service from North Star

The other week someone on the Society of Ancients forum posted that there was a half price sale on Xyston figures about to start at North Star Miniatures in the UK. I can always find a use for a few extra packs of Xyston, so I thought I'd look and see what they had in stock. They did in fact have some things that would come in useful and I put in a small order for seven packs.

About thirty minutes later an email arrived for me from the owner, Nick, apologizing and saying that three or four of the packs I'd wanted had sold out, and asking whether I would like a refund or to pick some replacement packs to throw in.

I replied saying that I was sorry to have caused such a lot of hassle on such a small order and for him to just make up the numbers with any Macedonians, Persians or Gauls he still had in stock. He said it was no trouble at all and that he'd do so. Next day there was message saying that the package had been dispatched.

The box arrived today, and I've found that not only did Nick seem to have known my mind better than I did myself regarding which make-up packs to choose, but he'd also thrown in a bonus pack of figures for good measure.

It was a great interaction all round, from the email pleasantries through to the fast service, the discounted VAT, the very reasonable shipping cost and his throwing in the extra pack (which went above and beyond the call of duty). It was very much appreciated, and I'd certainly recommend Nick at North Star both for his excellent service and also for being one of the many nice people we are lucky enough to have in this hobby.

Hmmm ... would not you like to buy some 15mm figurines for antiquity? I have Late Rome, Etruscan and Celtic (Galatians).

    1. Hi Telamon, thanks for the heads up, but the timing is not good for me at the moment, unfortunately. We're having to do some saving and hobby purchases are being kept to the 'very small' level. Those Late Romans look very nice, but if you want to move such a large half-painted lot quickly, you'd probably need to drop the price by 20-25%, I think. Good luck, anyway!

      Cheers,
      Aaron

    2. Sad. I can not get rid of it for months, despite promotions. :(

    3. Well, Legio Heroica are lovely figures, and the ones that are painted (horse particularly) look very good. Have you tried the miniatures page? You have to pay to join before you can advertise though.

    4. Yes, I tried. I tried selling it also on facebook. I would sell even my entire collection of Figures for 1800 PLN (494 USD). Romans, Etruscans and Celts. Perhaps more than a thousand figures.

    5. It’s a shame, but the price is probably part of the issue. People will not generally buy large 2nd hand from someone in another country unless it’s a real bargain which they will resell (10-20 cents a figure), a very popular army for themselves, or nicely painted and complete so that they can play immediately. Can you break them into painted or sorted DBA armies perhaps?

    6. Eh ... I have already discounted 35% of the price of new figurines, not counting painted figurines. :( I do not want to share it so I do not have to be with an incomplete army, and I do not have it when I paint it, because I paint a lot of other systems.I might try to post on ebay. I can also exchange it for any army to Warhammer 40k.

  4. Always good to hear praise instead of complaints. I have never dealt with North tar, but perhaps that should change?

    1. Since you're outside the UK, you don't have to pay VAT, so it's not a bad option price wise, either.

    2. Last time I looked over their webpage the VAT policy was not stated, so good/dangerous to hear that they do indeed remove VAT.

    3. Yes, I wasn't sure if they did or not, but come payment time the VAT was gone.

  6. Always have had excellent service from Northstar!

One time, I ordered a little, "pick me up" package to be sent to a fellow wargamer who was suffering a bout of melancholy. Nick added an additional pack or two into my order.

    Great form!
