So how did Caesar win that again??

A few shots of preparation for our Pharsalus Battle Day game on Sunday. At this stage I'm just lining up the troops and seeing how things look, but even with this it's hard to see how Pompey's 7000 cavalry and 2000 or so light infantry got so badly beaten up by 1000 cav and 2000-3000 legionaries!

  1. Impressive armies Aaron - look forward to your report of the game.

  2. Looks very good!

Has to be that unexpected flank charge. We have the Pompeian cavalry in deep unwieldy units that will struggle to respond.

  3. When we were thinking of Pompey's cavalry, we had the same idea as Sion: large, unwieldy units. We were also going to make their morale and command control relatively poor. They should defeat Caesar's first wave after a struggle, and then come a cropper against the legionaries, of course, and in our rules that should happen. No guarantees, though!

    1. I have three, maybe four new players, so one challenge is to keep it an interesting game as well. We'll have to see how it goes!

  4. Hey friend,

Excuse the off-topic comment; was looking for an "About" or "Contact" page to drop a quick message and couldn't find one.

Just wanted to say I think it's cool you've got this page going and you're going strong with your hobby in Japan. I taught English for a few years over there near Osaka and had a Kiwi friend at the time. First guy I had met from NZ, and he was super cool.

Anyway, I played a little bit of D&D when I was in J-Land, but didn't know anyone that did wargames. Japan is so into models and such, though, that it wouldn't surprise me to hear there's a strong following over there.

Anyway, keep up the good work, sir!

    1. Thanks Bushi, very nice to get your comment. Always nice to hear from a fellow ESL veteran! I'm in Wakayama, coincidentally enough, so probably not too far away from where you were teaching. There are a few gaming groups in Tokyo and Osaka, but I'm a bit out of the way and just do my own thing. If you're ever back this way for a visit, drop me a line. I'll add a contact feature to the blog.

      Cheers!
      Aaron
